USGI Olive
Drab (OD) Green Vintage (1987) Balaclava Hood - Used
The USGI
Cold Weather Balaclava Hood is a heavy-duty tactical headliner issued
across various branches of the U.S. Military for extreme cold-weather
operations. Unlike thin, basic synthetic liners, this classic balaclava is
knitted from a premium, high-density blend of 85% Wool and 15% Nylon.
This specific material profile offers the ultimate combination of performance:
the natural wool fibers provide exceptional insulation that retains warmth even
when damp from snow or breath, while the integrated nylon weave adds necessary
tensile strength, durability, and shape retention.
Designed with a
flexible, single-aperture face opening, it can be adjusted to be worn over the
nose and mouth, pulled down under the chin as a standard neck gaiter, or rolled
up into a watch cap. Its extended bib draping provides seamless thermal protection
that tucks deep into a field jacket or ECWCS parka collar, keeping freezing
winds off the neck and chest.
In Used
surplus condition, these balaclavas are thoroughly inspected for
serviceability. While they may show standard signs of previous field
deployment—such as light pilling of the knit fabric, slight fading of the olive
drab color, or original unit markings on the interior tag—they remain
structurally sound, free of major holes, and completely ready for action.
