FROG (Flame Resistant Organizational Gear) Balaclava is an elite-tier piece
of life-saving protective equipment issued exclusively to United States
Marines. Engineered to protect operators from the intense thermal energy, flash
blindness, and convective heat generated by Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs)
and flash fires, this balaclava is a mandatory component of the combat uniform
loadout.
Unlike standard
wool or basic synthetic winter hoods, this elite-issue protective mask is woven
from a highly advanced, proprietary blend of flame-resistant materials,
including Nomex®, Lenzing FR®, and Spandex. This technical blend ensures
that the fabric will not drip or melt when exposed to open flames or high
temperatures. Its ultra-breathable, moisture-wicking weave prevents heat stress
during desert operations while remaining comfortable under a ballistic helmet
or combat goggles.
In Used
surplus condition, these balaclavas are thoroughly inspected to guarantee full
field serviceability. While they may show standard signs of previous Marine
Corps service—such as light fading of the tan shade, minor fabric pilling, or
original deployment markings/names on the interior label—the fabric retains its
structural elasticity, flame-resistant properties, and signature soft texture.
