Improved Modular Sleep System (IMSS) 3-Piece Core Set (historically
fabricated under elite defense contracts by Tennier Industries) is the premier
cold-weather sleeping configuration issued to the United States Army.
Formulated using a progressive, interlocking nesting system, this 3-piece
assembly includes the essential textile layers needed to transition comfortably
from warm spring campsites down to freezing alpine terrain.
The modularity
of this system is its core asset: every single component can be deployed
entirely on its own as a standalone sleep solution, or snapped together
concurrently to establish an overlapping multi-layer thermal envelope that
locks in your core body heat.

1. Foliage
Green Patrol Sleeping Bag (NSN: 8465-01-547-2706)
- Temperature Profile: Rated as a standalone shell for
temperate zones between 30 degrees and 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Material & Insulation: Constructed from a lightweight,
1.9 oz water-resistant ripstop nylon shell insulated with Polargard® HV
continuous filament resin-bonded polyester. This specialized fill retains
its insulating loft even if it gets damp or exposed to morning
condensation.
- Layout: Built with an oversized roomy foot
box, adjustable cinch hood with a barrel lock, and dual-pull reversible
YKK zippers for custom ventilation.
- Dimensions: Approx. 90" L x 36" W

2. Urban
Gray Intermediate Cold Weather Sleeping Bag (NSN: 8465-01-547-2694)
- Temperature Profile: Engineered explicitly for serious
cold-weather field environments, maintaining a safe rating down from +30 degrees to -10 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Material & Insulation: Wrapped in water-resistant Urban
Gray ripstop nylon and packed with a thick, double-layer continuous
filament polyester fiber fill designed to completely mitigate cold
structural spots.
- Layout: Features an anatomically contoured
box-foot zone packed with double the insulation, a sewn-in quilted chest
collar to seal out cold internal drafts, and heavy-duty YKK zipper tracks.
- Dimensions: Approx. 85" L x 35" W
(Intentionally wider than the patrol bag to prevent inner insulation
compression when layered).
3. ACU Digital Camo GORE-TEX Bivy Cover (NSN:
8465-01-547-2644)
- Environmental Shield: The absolute protective outer
layer of the matrix. Fabricated using a certified 3-layer GORE-TEX®
laminate nylon fabric with fully heat-sealed waterproof seams.
- Vapor-Permeable Design: Blocks heavy driving wind, rain,
and snow on the outside while allowing moisture vapor from your sweat to
escape from the inside.
- Layout: Outfitted with heavy-gauge
dual-running zipper channels and heavy-duty snap fasteners aligned
explicitly to mate up with the zipper lines of both inner sleeping bags.
- Dimensions: Approx. 85" L x 35" W

Configuration Temperature Guide
When nested
properly inside one another, the stacked layers form an airtight thermal
boundary.
- 50 degrees to 30 degees Fahrenheit:
Use the Foliage Green Patrol Bag alone.
- 30 degrees to -10 degrees Fahrenheit:
Use the Urban Gray Intermediate Bag alone.
- -10 degrees to -30 degrees Fahrenheit:
Insert the Intermediate Bag inside the Patrol Bag.
- -30 degrees to -50 degrees Fahrenheit:
Snap all three components together concurrently (including the ACU Bivy
Cover and utilize proper extreme cold clothing layers.
